Frequently asked questions when prescribing vehicle harnesses:
Question: Are these harnesses NZ/AU safety approved?
Answer: Please note that this vehicle harness is not classed as safety harness but as a medical device for postural support. It must be worn in conjunction with the vehicle safety belt. It is classed as a Disabled Persons Restraints for postural support and as a low risk medical device.
Question: Do I require a tether point attachment?
Answer: No. The harnesses are simply strapped to the existing vehicle seat backrest.
Question: Can I use the harness on an aeroplane?
Answer: Yes, however you must get written permission from the airline prior to departure. Note: the Houdini 27 is the best choice for use on an aeroplane seat. The straps that go around the backrest may interfere with the tray and video screen of the person behind - please inform airline staff about this.
Question: What do I do if there is no access behind the seat for the attaching straps, i.e. in the back seat of a sedan vehicle?
Answer: Generally there is a way for the straps to go around the seat. Sometimes if the rear carpet is preventing the straps coming through, you need to cut some small slots in the rear carpet flap so the attaching straps can be threaded through. (The parcel shelf may have to be removed.) In some cases, the backrest of the vehicle may need to be removed so the straps can be put around.
Question: Can I use a Houdini harness in conjuction with a booster seat?
Answer: The Houdini harnesses can be used with booster bases only, however cannot be used in conjunction with a booster seat which has a backrest on it.

It is advisable to carry out a risk assessment for each client in order to consider the problems involved and what the situation would be if the passenger is not wearing a special needs harness. Could they be in danger to themselves and to other passengers in that vehicle or even other drivers on the road if they are not safely seated during transit?
The safety belt provided in the vehicle must always be worn over the top of our harness to comply with safety regulations unless they are exempt for medical reasons. The combination of the existing vehicle safety belt & the secondary harness offers added security for the passenger.
